Where has the time gone?
I feel like I was just writing about my pregnancy shoot, now I’m writing about Nicky’s first birthday. Crazy!
Just like any other first-time mom, I always fantasied about throwing my kids the most over the top birthday parties. When the time came, I did just that. Nicky has been obsessed with Mickey Mouse since he was about five months old so of course, that’s what I decided for the theme of the party. I began planning his party about three months prior and within those three months, I changed so much stuff. Along the way, I reconnected with a friend from high school who is now a wonderful event planner (Valash Events) and she helped me bring Nicky’s party to life.
Even though it was extremely hot outside I decided to have the party in my backyard because I have a good amount of space and of course it was cheaper having it at home. The money that I saved by having it I home, I was able to put towards more decorations.
The main backdrop was the first thing everyone saw when they arrived. The backdrop also was the desserts area which displayed a three-tier Mickey Mouse cake, shelving that held cupcakes, cake pops, rice Krispy treats, chocolate covered Oreos and more. On my waterfall over the pool, I had huge pictures of Nicky printed out and hung up with a balloon garland on top. In my grass area, we put a big play pit for Nicky and his friends to play around in and behind that were 8 feet high letters that spelled out NICKY.
Now I know some people may think it’s unnecessary to throw a big party for your one-year-old because they’re not going to remember it, but that’s what pictures are for!
